Listos California | Rooted Resilient Ready Event
I was commissioned by Jenifer Tracy, Creative Director at LaMont Digital to create an Illustration for a postcard to be given at an event organized by Listos California. The illustration had to include different ethnicities and groups of people such as multi-generational BIPOC family, people preparing for emergency - packing a Go Bag with items like phone chargers, flashlight, farmworkers, Korean-American representation, Punjabi representation among others while depicting geographic areas of California (coast, redwoods, desert)
These are the initial sketches ...
I always start with the background tonal environment and the figure that I want the illustration to dominate.
... I add the additional main elements quickly, just to get a sense of which colors are working or not...

I tried a wavy hand drawn lettering first ...
... but I decided to go with something bolder...
