I Love You LA

My wife and I worked on this piece together after the fires of 2025 in Los Angeles. I created the illustration and she wrote a poem. We are both transplants and love this city we call home. Working on the illustration and the letter helped us in some way to channel our sadness for everything that was going on.

I drew options working on the face expression and the position of the head. I did not wanted to be too sad, but loving and hopeful.
When I was working on the illustration, my wife suggested I added native California flowers in the form of a tattoo, which I felt it made it feel hopeful.

And then she wrote this:
My dear LA,
One day you greeted us with your open arms
To make us call you home
Today we embrace to heal
Tomorrow we’ll regrow.
We printed postcards to give to our friends and family.
It was included in "love letters to LA" a space created by KCRW for Angelinos to submit love letters, art, photos, recordings to demonstrate their love to the city.
